KU Mascot Tryouts

How Do I Try Out at KU?

1. Print the Tryout Paperwork (pdf) and mail it in by April 1.

2. To try out, you'll need to show proof of acceptance to KU, so make sure you apply to KU if you haven't already.

3. Show up at Anchutz Sports Pavilion (map) Saturday May 3. If you didn't get all your stuff mailed in, bring it with you.

Tryouts for the 2008-2009 squad will be held May 3 & 4 at Anchutz Sports Pavilion. To try out, see the instructions on the right. Also, you'll need to prepare a 1-minute skit with a theme, props, and music/sound effects. This skit must be tasteful and will be judged on creativity, effectiveness of props, and overall performance of the skit. Contact catj@ku.edu if you have any questions.

Our Squads

Tryouts will be held to fill multiple people for both Big Jay and Baby Jay. To try out for Big Jay, you must be 6'0" to 6'3" and fit into the Big Jay costume. To try out for Baby Jay, you must be 4'11" to 5'1" and fit into the Baby Jay costume.

What to Wear at Tryouts

Wear comfortable presentable athletic clothes (shorts and a t-shirt) and shoes.

Selection Criteria

Mascots will be selected based on their appropriateness and entertainment value.
